Lisbon - Day 1 - Eve of St Anthony, Castelo de Sao Jorge

9:00am

After a short walk up the hill, we visit the Castelo de S. Jorge at the top.  We got there just as it opened, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves which was pretty cool.  We wandered the ramparts, got serenaded by the peacocks that roam the grounds, and were treated to awesome views of the city of Lisbon.

As cool as the castle was, we were all starting to feel a little tired... the exertion of the trip was catching up to us.  So, we walked back down the hill to collect our luggage.

Then, full loaded, we walked partly back up the hill to meet our host at our apartment.

We're in luck, tonight is the eve of the feast of Saint Anthony and in Lisbon, that's bigger than Christmas.  Everywhere, the streets are decorated. Sangria, beer and food stalls are being set up in the streets in any direction you care to look.  It's going to be a loud and crazy night.

In preparation, we decide to do what seems most natural...  We all decide to get some sleep and rest up so we can enjoy the party.

The festival is a full-on street party throughout Lisbon, but the neighborhood where our apartment is, Alfama, is probably party central.

While the girls finish getting ready, Charlie and I head on a mission across town to pick up an extra set of keys.

Then, we head back and meet up with the girls and join the crowds dancing in the streets.  It's a wild night.

It's a late night, and we're starting to tire.  I suspect that we'll be sleeping in tomorrow morning.  We're not really doing much to adjust to the right timezone today, but that seems ok.
